The BF-3 settings aren't too different, just turn the dial on the BF-3 to Standard mode. BF-3 is actually a nice pedal. I have no problems with that one at all. MXR: Manual 10:00, Width 10:00, Rate 3:00, Reg. 7:00 (off). For Flange settings; Bf-2 or BF-3 in standard mode with Manual, Width, and Reg all at 2:00 and Rate between 10:00 to 12:00.
127. Dec 25, 2018. #1. My go to flanger has been a Boss HF-2 for years, I got a loan of the BF-3 from a mate to try out. My opinion on it: The Ultra is cool but a little over the top for the sounds I go for. The Standard is good, deeper than my HF-2 & I found I liked the Depth a little under half where I like it full on the HF-2, I kinda put The BOSS BF3 Flanger is the successor to the popular BF2 and so therefore has all the characteristics of its predecessor with a little something extra. All the official flanging sounds can be adjusted by the Depth, Width, Resonance (almost a kind of feedback control) and manual (by the change of the delay time the effect is changed) controls

The Boss BF-3 sounds fantastic out of the box, with all settings at 12 o'clock. For a digital signal processor, the sound quality in the BF-3 flanger is surprisingly good. It's most at home as a subtle modulation layer over a clean signal, which is how we did most of our testing in the following video demo:
